MINING

Mining.

From measuring the mine to understanding it continuously.

Mining environments change every day.

For more than a decade, Klau Geomatics technology has helped mining surveyors produce accurate spatial data for UAV mapping, surfaces and volume calculations.

Brumby takes that capability further, bringing high-accuracy positioning, LiDAR and edge computing together to generate spatial intelligence as the mine operates.

Accurate, fast, valuable.

Volumes & Surfaces.

From dedicated surveys to more continuous measurement.

Stockpile volumes, ROM pads, waste dumps, excavation progress and material movement are fundamental mining survey requirements.

UAVs provide an efficient way to capture these surfaces, and KlauPPK has supported high-accuracy UAV mapping in mining for more than a decade.

Brumby introduces a different opportunity.

Mounted on vehicles already travelling around the mine, Brumby can capture accurately positioned 3D data during normal operations.

Edge processing begins turning that capture into useful spatial information at the point of capture, reducing the delay between measurement and result. A vehicle passing a stockpile, ROM pad or waste dump  becomes part of the measurement process.

Why Brumby?

The difference is what happens to the data.

Capturing LiDAR is becoming easier and less expensive. The challenge is turning that capture into useful information quickly, repeatedly and at operational scale.

Brumby combines high-accuracy positioning, LiDAR and edge computing in a connected mobile platform.

Instead of simply collecting large raw datasets for processing later, Brumby can process and structure spatial data on the vehicle, while it is being captured.

Capture during normal operations
Deploy Brumby on vehicles already travelling the mine rather than relying solely on dedicated survey missions.

Process at the edge
Position, georeference and process LiDAR close to the point of capture, reducing the traditional capture-transfer-process delay.

Send information, not just raw data
Edge processing creates the opportunity to extract, optimise and deliver the spatial information that downstream systems actually need.

Manage systems remotely
Connected Brumby systems can be remotely monitored and supported, including system operation, calibration, quality control and data management.

Connect to mine systems
Deliver spatial information into GIS, digital twins, asset-management platforms and specialist AI and analytics systems.

Brumby isn’t simply another way to capture LiDAR.

It’s a platform for turning mine operations into a source of continuously updated spatial intelligence.

Haul Roads.

Map the road while you use the road.

Haul roads are continuously changing through traffic, grading, weather and mine development.

A Brumby-equipped operational vehicle can repeatedly capture the road network while carrying out its normal work.

Edge processing creates the foundation for extracting road geometry, crossfall, berms, surface condition and change without relying on the traditional capture-transfer-process workflow.

Over time, individual surveys become a continuously updated picture of road condition.

The Brumby advantage: the mapping system becomes part of the operation.

Assets & Infrastructure.

Map more than the surface.

A mine is a constantly changing network of physical assets and infrastructure.

Brumby-equipped vehicles can capture assets as they move through normal operations — including signs, barriers, poles, pipelines, drainage, structures, clearances and other mine infrastructure.

Repeated capture creates the opportunity to detect change, maintain current asset information and feed spatial updates into GIS, asset-management and digital-twin systems.

Capture the mine, continually.

Digital Twin

A Digital Twin That Keeps Up With the Mine

A digital twin is only useful if it represents the physical world. A conventional digital twin is a snapshot. In an operating mine, that snapshot begins ageing almost as soon as it is created; that world changes constantly.

Brumby can capture those changes from vehicles already moving through the operation, process spatial data at the edge and deliver useful updates into mine information systems.

Instead of periodically rebuilding the digital representation from large survey datasets, Brumby enables continuous updates as the mine operates.

The objective isn’t another model of the mine. It’s a digital representation that keeps up with the mine.

Spatial Intelligence for Autonomous Operations.

Machines need to understand a world that keeps changing.

Autonomous haulage and other automated mining systems operate within a physical environment that can change from one shift to the next.

Brumby provides a spatial intelligence layer capable of observing that changing environment.

Vehicles equipped with Brumby can repeatedly capture roads, operating areas, infrastructure and surfaces. Edge processing can identify and package relevant spatial information for delivery to the systems that need it.

Keep the digital understanding of the mine aligned with the physical mine.

From Periodic Survey to Continuous Intelligence.

The opportunity for mining is bigger than another way to capture a point cloud. Vehicles are already moving around mine sites every day.

Equipping those platforms with connected spatial intelligence creates the potential to move from dedicated, periodic surveys towards a continuously updated understanding of the mine.
